Afropunk is famous for its dynamic, vanguard road style. The two-day celebration, which came back to Johannesburg's Constitution Hill on 30 December, is a whistle-stop voyage through territorial music: Mozambican hip-jump craftsman Azagaia, Johannesburg-based FAKA, Port Elizabeth hitmaker Moonchild Sanelly, and Cape Town rappers Dope Saint Jude and YoungstaCPT all made that big appearance to perform.
Adding global flavour to the line-up: Los Angeles soul assemble The Internet, Haitian-Canadian DJ Kaytranada, New Orleans skip star Big Freedia, hip-bounce legends Public Enemy and electronic maker Flying Lotus likewise conveyed his hallucinogenic 3D show to the African landmass.
